Northshore Place Program
Elevating Brisbane’s city making practice and narrative through a sustainable activation strategy and thriving local economy.
Client: Economic Development Queensland
The goal; to set a new Australian benchmark for sustainable locally-led placemaking and activation practice at Northshore. Through a close collaboration with EDQ, Fourfold is establishing community connections within this large-scale urban regeneration precinct. Gradually, the Northshore brand and vision are being brought to life through regular activations and strengthened business networks that encourage collaborative stakeholder efforts to grow, innovate and drive visitation to the area. Fourfold’s role in this project is multi-dimensional. Our role includes stakeholder engagement, activation programming, event delivery support and strategic advice.
Supporting local businesses
Proactively engaging with local businesses and residents, the team has fostered mutually beneficial partnerships and a culture of stakeholder stewardship over the active and vibrant public life of Northshore. A calendar of stakeholder-led events delivered in partnership with EDQ brought everyday life and colour to Northshore’s public spaces. Through this program, businesses trial small ideas, building their confidence to scale upon success, as evidenced by Tennis Australia’s legacy annual event, a live outdoor viewing of the Australian open.
Event ready public space designs
As event management and urban design experts, we’ve experienced first-hand the implications of a public space that is poorly designed for activation. Our team worked closely with local stakeholders to understand their potential needs to host activations at Northshore. We then used these insights to test the design concept against various event models providing valuable feedback to the design team. We also developed event requirements and checklists for future event hosts.
Establishing an enabling environment
Underpinning every great place is a solid framework for place planning and management. During the delivery of activation at Northshore, we continue to work with EDQ and activation partners to improve and streamline processes to enable businesses and ensure citizen-led activation can occur seamlessly into the future.
Providing ongoing strategic advice
We continue to work with EDQ to provide strategic advice to ensure the Northshore vision is embraced by the local business community as well as promoted to the region. Our in-depth knowledge of the process from design, through to engagement, activation and governance is able to be called on to assist with the planning and delivery of the Northshore place program.
