Residents, creatives and local businesses band together to survive economic slowdown during construction of their town square.
The Fourfold Studio team (previously CoDesign Studio) worked with Council on this multi-award winning project to establish social capital and implement a locally-driven approach to economic growth. Investment into a new town square in the heart of Palmwoods was the catalyst to drive this community into action. Through an integrated placemaking and capital works approach, we uncovered community leaders, discovered a unique local identity and inspired a sustainable approach to activation.
The community produced a range of projects throughout the life of the project including a community event comprising over 60 contributions to the program. The Village Harvest drew over 2000 people to the township. Major events such as exhibition openings, and a seasonal dinner were augmented by performing art and street events. The event was promoted via local print and media outlets and had a Facebook reach of over 29,000 across local business and event pages.
One year on from project completion, retailers reported zero downturn during construction, decreased vacancies and a thriving social life. It is no wonder that our work on this project keeps winning awards.
